well, here we are once more in the start of a new season.
generally my impression ain't too good - it seems to me that the board and even the management team are giving too much attention to the Olympic Stadium move, that if it happens will take place in two seasons (and to which we are against), and not the more immediate matter of the very weak squad.
the new keeper is nowhere near Green and the strike force is by no means certain it will deliver in this level. Vaz Te wasn't given a salary raise as he should have and if he's really good till January it ain't gonna be easy retaining him then.
although I do respect Sullivan as a businessman - he seems to know the ropes, having graduated from the University of Life - his "the agents ain't gonna get us to the cleaners" line, along with the rumours of 10K a week salary cap will only make us an even more distant option to the eyes of any decent new player.
the friendly games only reinforced the desperation mood, driving the more optimistic speculating that "there're surely three worse teams than us"...
...well there may be but this ain't no mentality to approach the new challenges and it certainly ain't gonna carry us far.
it is a sad fact that we have lost the 10th to 15th customary finish we used to have from 1997 to 2003 and teams like Sunderland, Stoke and Fulham have taken it.
it will take time, effort and circumstances going against clubs like the above, in order for us to regain this position and this is where we should be focusing on rather than getting the nod to move to a stadium that will only be sustainable if we stay and be realtively successful in the top division.
the nightmare scenario is to be relegation strugglers, playing half the time in the Championship in a half empty soulless arena
